The Champlain Philharmonic will be presenting its Spring Concert Series, “In the Key of Spring” at the Congregational Church of Middlebury on Saturday, April 6 at 7:30pm and at Grace Congregational Church in Rutland on Sunday April 7 at 4pm.
The orchestra will perform a true gem; Symphony No. 3 in C minor, Op. 78, by Camille Saint-Saëns. The piece is better known as the “Organ Symphony” because it features pipe organ which will be played by Alastair Stout, Director of Music Ministries at Grace Congregational Church in Rutland. The piece also features piano which will be played by UVM professor David Feurzeig.
Feurzeig will also be featured on a composition of his own called “Stride Rite,” which is based on Stravinsky’s, “The Rite of Spring” but with a ragtime twist! Also included will be PDQ Bach’s clever and quirky “Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion.”
