Teaching Artists
Teaching Artists are instrumental in leading residencies and programming in Vermont schools and communities. Schools and organizations may apply to work with local teaching artists through Artists in Schools Grants, Creative Aging Grants, and Arts Project Grants. Organizations often work with teaching artists on our juried teaching artist rosters, but applicants to grant programs are welcome to submit proposals to work with eligible artists not on the rosters.
Teaching Artist Rosters
Organizations may consult the Council’s Teaching Artist Roster to connect with teaching artists living and/or working in Vermont who have notable experience leading activities in schools and/or community-based settings such as after-school programs or summer camps.
Artists on the Creative Aging Teaching Artist Roster have trained with Lifetime Arts to develop programming for older adults.
Idea Exchange
The Vermont Arts Council and Teaching Artists Connect completed a series of six virtual, monthly meetings for teaching artists from October 2023 through March 2024 intended to:
- Build community
- Provide support
- Share skills
- Offer networking opportunities for teaching artists of all disciplines across Vermont

Presenters
Gowri Savoor is a visual teaching artist, whose practice includes sculpture, illustration, and writing. Gowri is the founder of A River of Light, an organization committed to bringing art to the community through participatory art events, parades, and installations. She has been a practicing teaching artist for over twenty years with experience in arts integration and community building.
Heather Bryce is a teaching artist, choreographer, and the artistic director of Bryce Dance Company. Bryce currently works as a teaching artist for organizations including Alvin Ailey American Dance Foundation, Lincoln Center, Durham Arts Council, Vermont Arts Council, and The Center for Arts Education. She holds her M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College.
