Myra Flynn

December 16, 2023 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$10 – $45
The poster for this event, featuring Myra Flynn in the center and the Chandler Center for the Arts logo. On the left, text reads, "Myra Flynn, Saturday December 16, Hometown Vinyl Release Concert," followed by Myra Flynn's name upside down at the bottom. On the right, the text from the left side is displayed backwards, as if reflected in a mirror.

Myra is coming home for an inspiring night of music and celebration with a vinyl release concert! The Chandler Music Hall stage is the stage Myra grew up on; it’s the very first she ever sang on. Join Myra and her full band as she brings you along a musical journey filled with her unique blend of lyrical storytelling and soulful sounds.

Shadow Work is her first album release in four years and is inspired by all that has happened in that time, including the wild, world-altering, and wonderful experience of becoming a mother. Vinyl copies of Shadow Work will be available for sale at the door, and Myra will be signing them in the gallery for you after the show!

Margaret Grayson of Seven Days describes Shadow Work as “… five songs deeply concerned with relationships of all kinds. Flynn, who splits her time between Vermont and Los Angeles, sings of mothers and daughters, romantic relationships gone wrong, and the people who get us through the hardest times. She considers big questions about how a person ought to be in the world, but she conducts her case studies on the most intimate of stages. In certain moments, she questions herself, wondering if she’s doing enough for the people she loves; other times, she offers full-throated declarations of her own worth in the world. The same song can hold both sentiments and Flynn’s ability to capture complicated, conflicting emotions in her lyrics swept me away.”

Flynn spent much of her Vermont childhood singing and dancing atop anything and anywhere that felt like a stage. Today, not much has changed. From her first performance at Chandler Music Hall to headlining Burlington’s Discover Jazz Festival on the Flynn Theater stage this past summer, Myra continues to grow as an artist, musician, entrepreneur, and wholehearted woman. Her previous albums have earned her a place in the hearts of all those who have listened and a dedicated place in the singer-songwriter circuit. Her new album Shadow Work brings a new element and energy inspired by the soulful 80s that have always inspired Myra and uplifted her spirit.

Today, Myra lives a bi-coastal life, spending most of her year in Los Angeles while still holding tight to and honoring her roots in Vermont. She has toured the United States countless times, as well as: Whales, London, Ireland, and Australia. Myra is Vermont’s own Indie-Soul queen whose future is incredibly bright, and we’re excited to welcome her back to Chandler Music Hall! This will be a special full-band concert followed by an album signing in the gallery; a night not to be missed!
