Since founding in 2010, Scrag Mountain Music has been connecting Vermont communities to classical music in powerful ways. Each season, Scrag Mountain Music presents 4-5 weekends of innovative, interactive, and affordable chamber music performances in barns, art galleries, town halls, and churches around Vermont. “Come as you are. Pay what you can.” Instead of tickets, audience members are invited to pay what they can during intermission, using a radical payment method that allows concerts to be accessible to all. Scrag Mountain Music extends its reach to Vermont communities by bringing interactive performances and teaching artist residencies to VT schools and community organizations. Scrag Mountain Music engages top-tier chamber musicians from around the country and creates a retreat atmosphere for them to rejuvenate their artistry. Scrag Mountain Music has a consistent track record of financial viability and has steadily grown since its founding.
The Managing Director is a new position which will have operational responsibility for Scrag Mountain Music, in partnership with Founders/Artistic Directors and the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will be innovative, charismatic, and entrepreneurial. She/he will demonstrate strategic thinking, successful fundraising, strong management, and excellent communication skills. The candidate will have a passion for creating community around great music. Scrag Mountain Music is entering a robust stage of growth, and this position offers great opportunity for organizational impact. The Managing Director will work remotely, outside of scheduled meetings and performances, allowing for flexibility in the work schedule.
Managing Director – Job Description
Reporting to the Artistic Directors, The Managing Director is responsible for Scrag Mountain Music’s operations, organizational growth and mission execution. Responsibilities (detailed on our website) include fundraising (40%), operations and program delivery (30%), marketing and communications (20%), and leadership and management(10%).
Salary Range: $25,000-35,000 contingent upon experience.
Half time position averaging 20 hrs/wk. Time requirements vary according to performance schedule and other seasonal priorities. No benefits.
