Financial Considerations

Some grant programs have requirements for matching funds. Specific match fund requirements are noted in the guidelines for each grant program.

What We Do Not Fund

  • academic tuition
  • outside of the Council’s Cultural Facilities and Animating Infrastructure programs, construction of new facilities, renovation of existing facilities, or other capital improvements
  • fundraising events
  • activities in which artists are not appropriately compensated
  • food and beverages
  • international travel
  • lobbying expenses
  • purchase of permanent equipment
  • home or office workspace
  • goods for resale

Tax Information for Individuals

Please note that grants and honoraria to individuals are considered earnings by the IRS. Individual grantees and panelists are required to submit a W-9 form so that we can complete our IRS reporting. If you received more than $600 in a particular year from the Vermont Arts Council you will receive a Form 1099  by January 31 of the following year.
