Call to artists for April Fair Housing Month
April is fair housing month, celebrating the federal Fair Housing Act, which prohibits housing discrimination, that was signed into law on April 11,1968 after a long and difficult political and social struggle. Every year Art Shape Mammoth, a local artist education community, with the help and funding from the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) put on exhibits that are part of a month-long celebration of fair housing, which includes proclamations from Burlington’s Mayor and Vermont’s Legislature, fair housing trainings, talks, and other events highlighting the concepts of home and community, with a focus on inclusivity and diversity.
This year we are putting on two exhibits and are looking for artists like you! The theme of this year is what does “home” mean to you in the context of a diverse and inclusive community.
Qualifications: Must live in Vermont and be willing to bring your artwork to and from Burlington.
Should you apply?: YES! you do not need to be an "artist" to submit your work, as long as you feel like the work you are creating or will create connects to ideas of home in your diverse community, you should send us an email
Type of work: Anything! 2D, 3D, painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, wire, etc.
Application Closing: February 25th 11:59pm EST - Applications will be accepted on a ROLLING BASIS, please do not wait till the deadline to send in your application
Application: Send 1-5 pictures of your work to email@example.com with your name, a website if you have it, an artists statement (how your work connects to our theme) and the info on each of your pieces (title, dimensions and price). We will get back to you whether you have been accepted or not. \
Please feel free to reach out with any questions to our email - firstname.lastname@example.org
Nitty gritty: We take 30% on sales but the rest is for you. All work should be ready to be presented in the exhibition by MARCH 25Th. We ask that no matter when the piece is sold it stays in the exhibition through all of April for our opening reception and closing dinner.
