The Center for Arts and Learning (CAL) seeks to hire an Executive Director to build upon the organizational growth of the past three years and continue to expand our programming and presence in the Central Vermont community. This is currently a part-time (20 hours a week) position out of our location at 46 Barre Street, Montpelier VT.

The Executive Director (ED) works in partnership with the Board of Directors to help shape the vision of the organization based on its mission and long-term goals. The ED is responsible for overseeing all CAL projects and programs, managing day-to-day operations, securing sponsorships, and leading development and fundraising activities in collaboration with the board, staff and network of volunteers.

The ED plays a critical role in shaping and maintaining the culture and identity of the organization; acts as spokesperson both internally and to the community at large; and leads the effort in building and maintaining strong relationships between CAL and the local community of artists and arts groups. The ED manages a part-time staff of two, reports to the Board of Directors, serves as the primary liaison between the staff and the board; and plays a collaborative role in Board development.

The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about all forms of the arts; is knowledgeable about or experienced in nonprofit fundraising, sponsorship, procurement, grant writing, strategic planning, and will be able to open up new avenues of financial and community support for the organization; enjoys nurturing a collaborative spirit and can provide guidance and support for staff; is able to shape, articulate and implement the vision and goals of CAL; has experience in non profit and/or arts management and exhibition; has competency in financial management and understands how to budget, be fiscally responsible and develop financial projections; is able to communicate frequently and effectively with the organization ‘s board, staff and donors; has well-established connections in the arts community, as well as an understanding of the corporate world; is able to balance a bold, aggressive artistic vision with fiscal responsibility; and is eager and able to represent CAL in the best possible light to the community, the city of Montpelier and the state of Vermont.
