On Saturday, May 26 at 7 PM, join Eric Hangen y La Ruta at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester for an unforgettable evening of Latin jazz to benefit solar energy projects in Puerto Rico.

Vermont resident and pianist / composer Eric Hangen studied piano at Berklee College of Music. He lived in Puerto Rico, where he performed with Latin Grammy winners Celia Cruz, Andy Montañez, José “Cheo” Feliciano, and many other stars of the Puerto Rican salsa scene. His new album, “Real You Real Me,” seamlessly blends the rhythms of the island with influences from jazz and classical music to create a unique sound that is both infectious and thought-provoking.

An all-star cast of musicians from around the globe will join the performance, including:

• Puerto Rican saxophonist Edmar Colon, a first-prize winner at the “Keep an Eye” International Jazz Awards in Amsterdam. Colon is a graduate of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and has toured and performed with Grammy award winners such as Dianne Reeves, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Esperanza Spalding.

• Israeli flutist Amir Milstein, a world music professor at New England Conservatory and veteran several acclaimed groups in the world music scene, including Bustan Abraham and Tucan Trio. Milstein has performed with latin music greats such as six-time grammy winner Tito Puente.

• German drummer Bertram Lehmann, a percussion professor at Berklee College of Music. Lehmann has over 40 albums to his credit and has recorded and performed with Grammy award winners such as Dave Samuels, Paquito D’Rivera, and Randy Brecker.

• Venezuelan percussionist Fran Vielma, an award-winning graduate of New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music whose debut album, “Tendencias,” was released this spring.

• Australian bassist James Dale, who has studied at both the Sydney Conservatorium and Berklee College of Music, and has performed with some of the world’s top jazz musicians including five-time Grammy winner Maria Schneider, four-time Grammy winner Terence Blanchard, Ernie Watts, and many others.

Vermont Youth Dancers (VYD) will present Castle on the Hill, A Tale of King Arthur at Mount Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Vermont Youth Dancers puts their own spin on the classic legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. VYD brings this tale of chivalry, brotherhood and courage to the stage through dance to current music with a unique blend of thrilling hip-hop and captivating lyrical choreography, with song choices that “tell” the story. The lines between dance and drama are blurred, as dancers bring characters to life through dance, acting, and imaginative staging.
VYD is a community dance company of area elementary, middle and high school students with local talented dancers from Jericho, Underhill, Essex, South Burlington, Williston, and Fletcher.
This year, VYD is partnering with King Arthur Flour to raise funds to fight hunger, and will make a donation to Hunger Free Vermont.

Tickets are available online at sprucepeakarts.org,$18 and $22, reserved seating, wheelchair accessible. Show runs approximately 2 hours, with a short intermission.
