Make a Zine class for Homeschoolers

Make a Zine class for Homeschoolers

Catamount Arts will offer a zine-making class for homeschooled students ages 10-14, beginning in November. Make a Zine! will take place Thursdays from noon to 2pm, November 7th through December 19th, with no class on Thanksgiving. Class will meet in the Catamount Arts Classroom downstairs at 115 Eastern Avenue.
Zines are self-published works, often a mix of text and images, usually reproduced on a photocopier for limited distribution. Instructor Lassiter Williams will lead students in writing and assembling their own poetry or prose, collages and other artwork into zines which they will create individually and/or collectively.
Students will brainstorm ideas, map out a plan for presentation, and then draw, write, doodle, cut, paste, scribble, sketch, and print their way to handmade zines ready for distribution.
Writer and teacher Lassiter Williams earned a bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA in Children’s Literature from Hollins University. Her debut fantasy novel, “The Rage,” was published this year by Regent Street Press.
Tuition for Make a Zine! is $110 per child with a ten percent discount for each additional sibling. The sibling discount must be taken in person at the box office at the Catamount Arts Center. Catamount Arts is committed to offering quality arts activities for children regardless of ability to pay. Please call Anne at 748-2600, extension 109, to discuss scholarship availability or payment plans.
