Gypsy Jazz and Brazilian Workshop

Gypsy Jazz and Brazilian Workshop Vermont Arts 2018
Description:

For four days this July, Vermont will host players from all over the world for an intense celebration of non-classical styles, techniques, and contemporary practice methods. The daily schedule will include lots of good food, conversation, jam sessions, classes,
and performances.

This year the emphasis is on Gypsy Jazz and Brazilian instrumental music - both GREAT repertoires for classically-trained players to begin to understand new styles and improvisational concepts.

Jason Anick, violinist and mandolinist with the acclaimed "Rhythm Future Quartet," is on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and is very active on the international concert circuit. Jason is a classically-trained player who has found his way into improvised styles and knows how to communicate this innovative pathway.

Eugene Friesen will focus on Brazilian music and ways to make your playing an indispensable creative voice in contemporary ensembles. Eugene will share his approach to playing and accompanying in a variety of jazz and Brazilian styles.

You will learn to craft bass lines, understand harmony, take a solo, and play a melody with authentic style.

Players will also rehearse and perform in ensembles, offering opportunities to survey new repertoire, solo in a group, and integrate new styles in an ensemble setting.

Time: 7/12/18 4:00pm - 7/15/18 1:00pm
Location: Stone Church Center, Bellows Falls

Plein Air Painting Plus

Plein Air Painting Plus Vermont Arts 2018
Description:

HARDWICK STREET CAFÉ
$100
Plein Air Painting Plus! The landscape, a model, and lunch! Plein Air painting is about leaving the inside of your studio or home and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape. This workshop is offered by GRACE (Grass Roots Arts and Community Effort), and takes place on our beautiful outdoor patio. The workshop will focus on composition, color scheme, light source, ambiance, and integration of the figure into the landscape. Participants need to provide their own materials (any of these are appropriate: pastels, water color paints, graphite pencils, paper, drawing board, easel). The Highland Center Café will be serving lunch which can be brought to you at your workstation! You are also free to bring your own.

This class meets three times, Thursdays 7/12 through 7/26, and registration for the series costs $100.

Vacation MakerCamp at Green Mountain Performing Arts

Vacation MakerCamp at Green Mountain Performing Arts
Description:

The Why
Out-of-school learning programs in the summer months provide critical support and enriching experiences for children and teens.
A safe, healthy environment over the summer weeks can make all the difference in a child’s inner and outer well-being. The opportunity to discover or pursue passions is invaluable.
Self-confidence soars as collaborative abilities strengthen during camp experiences that develop age-appropriate skills.
The How
Get absorbed in imaginative, creative projects that whiz, buzz, jitter, wobble, wiggle, blink, and shine.
Learn about electrical circuitry and take away items that you may wish to continue working on at home
The What
Participants may choose to integrate their creations into video expressions that can be filmed and edited to include sound and animations.
With a wide variety of materials and digital media, this program experience will include construction of cardboard pinball machines, simple robots, and simple electronic wearable items.
Both an imaginative and creative outlet for vacation fun AND a structured opportunity to use building tools and follow a progression of skill-building.
We will build small robots, hack into electronic toys, and create wearable electronics such as bracelets, hats, hairbands, etc.
To learn about electrical circuitry, we'll use LEDs, coincell batteries and conductive materials such as thread, paint, and electro-dough.
We'll use hobby motors, alligator clips, and battery packs, and more.
We may even use a sewing machine, a soldering iron, or a dremel -- maybe even all three.

Time: 2/26/18 9:00am - 8/25/18 3:00am
Location: 37 Commercial Street, Waterbury
