Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival Vermont Tour at the Vergennes Opera House

On Sunday, February 10, 2019, the Vergennes Opera House will be screening two of the award-winning documentaries from the 2018 Middlebury New Filmmaker's Festival. Tickets are $12 for each film or $20 for both.

2pm: ALL THE WILD HORSES Screening Run time: 89 minutes
Featured Documentary at the 4th Annual MNFF. Directed by Ivo Marloh. Synopsis A dramatic and beautiful film that brilliantly documents the Mongol Derby horse race. The race is the longest and toughest horse race in the world and easily the most epic and dangerous. Riders of the 1,000 kilometers race navigate between stations that are 40 kilometers apart where there is a constant supply of fresh horses and strict veterinary care and checkpoints.

4:30pm DATELINE-SAIGON Screening Run time: 95 minutes
Winner-Best Documentary Feature at the 4th Annual MNFF. Directed by Thomas Herman. Synopsis: How does a nation slip into war? Dateline-Saigon compellingly profiles the controversial reporting of five Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists during the early years of the Vietnam War as President John F. Kennedy is secretly committing US troops to what is initially dismissed by some as 'a nice little war in a land of tigers and elephants.’

In visual media, music is often the secret partner in storytelling, embodying the internal states of the characters in the narrative. This event will feature a variety of approaches to the marriage of music to picture, as offered by VCFA students, faculty and alumni—from fiction films, to animation, video art, webisodes, documentaries, game scores, and jingles. The intent is to explore and celebrate the diversity of music-to-picture relationships.
