Constellations

Constellations

Physicist Marianne meets beekeeper Roland at a party. They go for a drink … or perhaps they don’t. Marianne’s engaged … or perhaps Roland is married. Or maybe they’re both single. Nick Payne’s smash Broadway hit play (in which Jake Gyllenhaal played Roland) takes this chance encounter between two lost souls and opens the door to the infinite possibilities of their relationship. Breathlessly navigating through the spellbinding and romantic journey of being in love, Constellations looks at how the tiniest change in the detail of our lives can lead us on completely different paths.

“This play shimmers with the concentration of two actors working together to keep each moment fresh and new.” – Seven Days

Tickets start at $20, Seniors 20% off, Students $10.

Vermont Suitcase Company at Pentangle Arts

Vermont Suitcase Company at Pentangle Arts

Vermont Suitcase Company tours live, active theater to Vermont towns. We bring community people together to laugh with us and with each other.

Come delight in our adapted Moliere, The Doctor and the Dowry. The miserly merchant Signor Buccio is desperate to marry off his daughter Alessandra to the well-matched Visconte de Luca, but her grave (and completely fabricated) illness has gotten in the way. Alessandra dreams of running away with the handsome servant boy, Fabrizio, but Fabrizio’s swindling sister Colombina plans to rob the old man and flee to Sicily once and for all. Will Dr. Tartaglia’s herbal concoctions actually kill the perfectly healthy Alessandra? Will Pedrolino manage to tunnel into Buccio Manor in time? The Vermont Suitcase Company is here on their summer tour, so come find out for yourself!

DIG Written & Directed by Theresa Rebeck

DIG Written & Directed by Theresa Rebeck

A new play from the author of DOWNSTAIRS

A dying plant shop in a dying urban neighborhood receives a visitor from the past: Meghan, the neighborhood screw-up, whose suicide attempt followed a terrible tragedy. Roger, the store owner, wants nothing to do with this situation, but Meghan is improbably clinging to life. Can a soul beyond saving be saved? A play about courage, redemption and photosynthesis.

Dorset Theatre Festival Resident Playwright Theresa Rebeck (Broadway’s 2018 Bernhardt/Hamlet), has developed more than six productions at the Festival that have gone on to other stages around the country, including 2017’s Downstairs starring Tim Daly and Tyne Daly, which ran Off-Broadway at Primary Stages in fall 2018. The Most Broadway-Produced Female Playwright of Our Time, Rebeck returns to Dorset on the heels of the new spy thriller, 355 (with Jessica Chastain’s production company Freckle Films), for which she penned the script, having sold at the Cannes Film Festival market last spring.

DIG has received an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award to support the world premiere production at Dorset Theatre Festival. Piloted in 2006 with Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, the Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards give plays in development extended rehearsal periods for the entire creative team, including the playwrights. The program launched nationally in 2007 and has awarded grants to non-profit theatres for 393 new plays to date. The Edgerton Foundation was awarded the 2011 TCG National Funder Award.

Oldcastle Theatre Company Presents: Brighton Beach Memoirs

Oldcastle Theatre Company Presents: Brighton Beach Memoirs

The most popular American playwright in history was, easily, Neil Simon, and comedic master's best play, according to many critics, gets a revival at Oldcastle Theatre as the company presents "Brighton Beach Memoirs" opening Friday July 12th.
Fifteen year old Eugene, modeled on Simon himself, is preoccupied with sex, and the Yankees, a writer-to-be, an alternately perplexed and perceptive observer, and our narrator and guide to life in the Jerome family. The play is set in September of 1937, late in the depression, the Jeromes have relatives living with them, and life is by no means easy. But as the playwright portrays it, it is neither miserable no pitiful. The Jeromes are troubled: there is illness, unemployment, poverty, deep resentments and foreboding signs of World War II. Yet the family meets challenges with such enormous spirit, dignity and vigor that life---at once humorous and poignant---is something to celebrate.
