Wax Carving & Lost Wax Metal Casting

Students in this week-long workshop will learn the ancient art of lost wax casting. Beginning with wax carving, wax sculpting, and cuttlefish carving, students will learn both reductive and additive techniques. As the workshop progresses, students will learn centrifugal lost wax casting and direct casting, and have the opportunity to learn basic finishing techniques on their cast pieces. Students will work with ancient bronze and sterling silver in their castings.

Workshop classes are a chance to focus without the distractions of daily life, and to tap into the creative endeavors that sustain us all. The Marlboro Studio School welcomes students to stay on campus for the duration of their stay, and area residents are also invited to participate as commuting Day Students.
