Paul Bowen: Woodlark, and Fran Bull, Space: an odyssey

June 16 at 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Paul Bowen sculpture fashioned from scavenged seaside material, and works on paper; and Fran Bull’s acrylic paintings inspired by cosmic imagery from the James Webb space telescope.

Paul Bowen has centered his life around the beaches of Provincetown. An inveterate beachcomber, he collects human commerce’s humble bits and remains, led by his curiosity and appreciation for the random objects forgotten and washed ashore. The artist combines and balances his weathered items into carefully realized sculptures, often to be mounted on a wall.

At age 10, Fran Bull, wearing a beret as she sketched with her best friend in Greenwich Village cafés, knew she was an artist. She painted, sculpted, studied voice, and sang opera. After college, she exhibited her Photorealist paintings in New York. Her work become more personal and less representative, reflecting contemporary events and themes. “My abstract art has always borne a relationship to photographic images coming to us from Outer Space…. Something about setting into motion paint of varying viscosities and colors is aligned with how gasses and stars interact in space.”
