Come learn a couple of waltzes in contrasting styles based in the Celtic/French/contra dance traditions. I love how waltzes can range from spacious and beautiful to wildly propulsive. We’ll explore phrasing, backup ideas, chords, and harmonies to bring these tunes to life. We’ll experience the joy of playing waltzes together in ensemble, with a variety of parts available so that less experienced musicians can be successful, while more experienced musicians can be challenged. We’ll start out working by ear and transition to sheet music as time goes on, but if you’re less comfortable with one of those learning styles than the other, there will be plenty of support. This will be a safe, nurturing, and fun learning environment. I’m really excited to share some cool tunes in a beautiful local space! Let’s fill this place up with music!
