Luminous: Summer Group Exhibit Featuring David Maille

July 30 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The exhibit opens on June 7 and will run through August 17th, 2024. The public reception will be held on Friday, June 14th, 5-7 pm.
The featured artist is David Maille. Equally versatile in woodworking and oil painting, David Maille creates paintings that integrate the grain and integrity of the wooden panels that serve as their base. The wood can be built up, adjoined, or carved away and metal leaf applied with the addition of very slight, oil paint layers. The sculptural relief and curvatures of these works allow the viewer to observe a singular scene that changes in nuance and tone when viewed at different angles and as light changes throughout the day and night. Some of the pieces give a sense that one is looking from within a darker space to an external, natural view- a play of foliage with the luster of distant skylight. These panels draw on elements of the Arts and Crafts movement combined with David’s contemporary reflections on the Vermont landscape. Maille lives with his family in New Haven, Vermont. He is an experienced gardener and professional carpenter. Some of the wooden panels are harvested from downed trees on his land; here he honors them with a new luminous life.

As always, in our group exhibits you’ll find a wide range of work from abstract to landscape, still life, art glass, and sculpture. ‘Luminous’ includes work from:
