Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury presents Mal Maiz

July 7 at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury Music Series returns to Dog Mountain, Sunday, July 7th, at 5pm, with Burlington’s own Mal Maiz. Costa Rican multi-instrumentalist Maiz “Brujo” Vargas Sandoval and his Afro-Latino Orchestra blend Afro-Caribbean rhythms including traditional cumbia, son corrido, and puya for an exuberant dance party vibe. The concert, as with all Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury shows, is free and family-friendly.

Mal Maiz originated ten years ago when Vargas assembled some of the most in-demand professional musicians in the epicenter of Vermont’s live music scene. Mal Maïz explores the psychedelic side of Latin music, weaving modern and traditional rhythms from Central and South America. The storytelling behind each song is designed in a poetical way, elaborating the complexity of the myths and legends that once were part of the oral culture of Central America. Mal Maiz reignites the passion in which these stories originated, bringing them to life in festive, irresistible music.
Since 2017, the Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury Music Festival has brought free, family-friendly summer concerts to St. Johnsbury’s Dog Mountain every Sunday and, in recent years, monthly Final Fridays celebrations on Railroad Street. Following Mal Maiz’s July 7th show, there will be a free 5pm concert at Dog Mountain every Sunday through August. Concerts are also scheduled on the final Fridays of June, July, and August, on Railroad Street, as part of St. Johnsbury’s Final Fridays street fairs.

Dogs are welcome at Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury concerts at Dog Mountain, where food and drink vendors such as Maria’s Kusina and Kingdom Taproom are available onsite. Patrons are welcome to bring food, but may not bring their own alcohol. Thanks to Kingdom Trails, switchback footpaths provide easy passage from the parking area to the concert green. Parking is also available at Fairbanks Scales on Portland Street, where patrons can then board a free shuttle, courtesy of RCT, up to Dog Mountain. Visit for more information.

Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury Music Series shows at Final Fridays on Railroad Street are surrounded by downtown food and drink vendors and conclude a half-day block party on the last Friday of every summer month.
