Gel Plate Printing with Holly Hughes

October 8 - October 14

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Gel plate printing is a super user friendly, kitchen table compatible printmaking technique with no need for a press. Fun, open to experimentation, great for travel, and very painterly – this is a method where artists of any experience level can discover new motifs and approaches for their artwork, learn about color, make finished prints, or print wonderful material for collage. This One Week Residential Workshop will offer many demos and loads of hand-on studio time.

You will learn an “invisible” collage technique, where your vibrant colorful prints can become raw material for larger works on paper. We will use slow drying Golden’s Open Acrylics for most techniques and simple tools like rubber brayers, rubber tipped clay shapers, ball point pens, Q-tips, brushes, leaves and cut paper stencils to build up layers and add complexity, texture and transparency.

Workshop classes are a chance to focus without the distractions of daily life, and to tap into the creative endeavors that sustain us all. The Marlboro Studio School welcomes students to stay on campus for the duration of their stay, and area residents are also invited to participate as commuting Day Students.
