INSTRUCTOR: LINDA LYNTON
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28
9:30 A.M.–4 P.M.
SVAC Member: $125; Non-member: $150 (includes $15 materials fee)
Age 16+
Learn to make a selection of natural dyes, and use them to create a series of ink drawings of elements in nature. We will begin by creating basic dyes–boiling black walnut, onion skins, turmeric and indigo to produce five distinct colors, monitoring them with test strips as we go. Once we have our colors, we will collect natural objects to draw, such as twigs, leaves, bark and fungi. Drawings will begin with pencil and india ink; dyes follow, and the instructor will provide guidance about some of the idiosyncrasies in the use of each dye.

Materials:
Some supplies will be provided. Students should please plan to bring the following:
Pad of 8 x 8 inch Stonehenge white paper sketch pad to be used for testing colors and test sketches
India ink
Pen holders and nibs
Small pot to hold water
