Currently Speaking: Artist vanessa german in conversation with Curator Rachel Moore
September 28 at 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
$10
Stowe, Vermont – As part of the ongoing Currently Speaking series, The Current is pleased to host exhibiting artist vanessa german for an in-person conversation on Thursday, September 28 at 5pm with curator Rachel Moore. Their discussion will touch on a host of topics, including german’s four works currently exhibited in, A Place of Memory. This exhibition showcases artists who reclaim their own ancestral stories, asking the viewer to rethink how we present history, and therefore, our present and future values.
The evening will also serve as the official launch of The Current’s new digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and cultural app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Bloomberg Connects app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store, makes The Current accessible for either onsite or offsite visits through photo, audio, and video features offering insights into its upcoming exhibitions, panels, educational curriculum, and other programming. “We are pleased to announce our partnership with Bloomberg Connects, and are honored to join the growing roster of over 250 national and international arts and culture organizations, including The Met, MoMA, Tate, and Brooklyn Museum. We are grateful for this generous support, which enables and enhances worldwide accessibility, engagement, and connection to and with our exhibitions,” said Rachel Moore, Executive Director of The Current.
vanessa german is a self-taught citizen artist working across sculpture, performance, communal rituals, immersive installation, and photography, in order to repair and reshape disrupted systems, spaces, and connections. The artist’s practice proposes new models for social healing, utilizing creativity and tenderness as vital forces to reckon with the historical and ongoing catastrophes of structural racism, white supremacy, heteropatriarchy, resource extraction, and misogynoir. In August, german unveiled a new commission for the exhibition Pulling Together at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The exhibition explores the role of monuments in the telling of American history and marks the first organized group exhibition ever staged in The National Mall.
The Currently Speaking series hosts experts in various contemporary art genres and media to encourage casual discourse and meaningful interactions between our community, speakers, and the art they showcase.
All series events start at 5pm, last an hour, and are free to the public with a suggested donation of $10. No reservation is required, and the gallery will be open beforehand for viewing the current exhibition, A Place of Memory. Refreshments will be served.
