About the presenting artists:
Kenny Richards is a waterman, scholar, and entrepreneur whose word-craft unfolds like experimental grimoire.
As a scholar, Kenny was a Mellon Fellow at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he pursued a PhD in Religious Studies. His academic interests are in theories of becoming, radical freedom, animalities, sovereignty, and American history. Kenny has presented his academic writing nationally and internationally, has received numerous grants for his research, and will be joining the UVM faculty this fall to teach at the intersection of religion and environmental studies.
As an entrepreneur, Kenny founded Halyard Brewing Company, a local beverage company that specialized in organically sourced Hard Ginger Beer. While Kenny led the company, he received press from The Boston Globe, Seven Days, Forbes, Men’s Journal, and others, was sold in 10 states and in stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Wegman’s, and Hannaford. He is currently bartending on Gin Lane with Barr Hill, completing his dissertation, and working as a marine surveyor.
He will be sharing a chapter from a work-in-progress space opera. Read and Performed on April 18th!
ANIMAL Dance is a performance and production company, directed by Hanna Satterlee, based in Burlington Vermont. Our artistic work highlights the sentience shared between species, honoring the ephemeral language of the body in motion. We will be sharing excerpts from “Tender Hearts,” a new dance work for the stage that will premiere in June at Main Street Landing’s Black Box Theater. The initial research stage for “Tender Hearts” included over 70 hours of recorded interviews on love, vulnerability, connection and grief. Conversations formed around health, family, dreams, accidents, hobbies, hardship, pain, and transformation. These types of conversations are continuing in the dance studio during our rehearsal process, and will ultimately be expressed through spoken text, movement language and conceptual dance choreography in the performance. Come see the work in progress and share your insights and feelings!

The image of dancer, Hanna Satterlee, was taken during Blue Hour, the time between sunset and darkness. She is wearing a commissioned painting on recycled calendar paper by artist Jacob Kuperman. She is illuminated by two strobes, one pushing the light in the direction of the already set sun and the other, opposite to rim the costume. The photo was taken in Rockport, Maine at the Breakwater Lighthouse in June 2022. Photo by Andreas John, for the project “Tender Hearts.”
