Colorful Dyeing with the Kangaroo Dyer

May 4 at 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

$125

Gail Callahan, The Kangaroo Dyer, will guide you through the basic principles in her book; “Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece” by Storey Publishing. Anyone interested in understanding color for any medium will enjoy learning her fresh perspective.

Students will dye swatches using the 3 Primary colors, red, yellow and blue. We will dye 36 pieces of silk and attach them to cardstock with the recipes. These recipes can be recreated on other protein fibers, such as wool, alpaca, mohair, angora and cashmere. Depending on the pace and interest of the class, Gail will demonstrate other techniques from her book.

This class builds a strong understanding of mixing colors; these principles apply to any color work in all creative mediums; watercolor, collage, printmaking, painting, mosaics, quilting, knitting and sewing, just to name a few.
