About the Exhibit

collaboration: a survey of 40 prints from the VSC Print Archive in celebration of 40 years of VSC curated by Sarah Amos is an exhibit of 40 prints representing the work of 37 artists. It showcases a snapshot of time, people, place and the cross-pollination and generative nature of the VSC Press. The surveyed prints cover a broad range of styles, techniques, and subject matter. Most importantly, the exhibit embodies the spirits of Vermont Studio Center, the synergy of individual and shared vision and what is possible in community.

About the VSC Print Collection

In 1994, Master Printer Sarah Amos and Vermont Studio Center’s (VSC) co-founder Jon Gregg launched a 10-year printmaking revolution by inviting renowned contemporary artists for week-long collaborations working with Amos at the VSC Printing Press. The decade long project generated income to support fellowships at VSC and built a rich collection from a deep community of global artists.

15 years after the project ended this rich collection fell victim to the historic July 2023 flooding that impacted much of Vermont including Johnson and the VSC campus. With a third of the collection damaged by flood waters, Sarah Amos returned to support the restoration. Sarah Amos along with paper conservators Carloyn Frisa and Walther Newman worked with VSC staff, archivists, and volunteers to restore the damaged prints. After months of navigating the damage, the community called on VSC and Sarah to showcase the work and to return to the legacy of the prints as originally conceived. That call has been answered with the “collaboration” exhibit and auction.

All proceeds from the auction will be used to support VSC Fellowships for artists and writers.
