Circus Smirkus Seeks a Bookkeeper

Circus Smirkus, a non-profit, award-winning, international youth circus based in Greensboro, Vermont, with the mission to promote the skills, culture and traditions of the traveling circus and to inspire youth to engage in life-changing adventures in the circus arts seeks an adventure driven and detail oriented Bookkeeper to oversee the day to day financial needs of the Company and to support the business functions of our various programs. You will be responsible for processing accounts payable and payroll, as well as performing various office and human resources functions including the completion of reconciliation reports and tax filing. You will work closely with the company’s Accountant and Executive Director to ensure that financial systems are efficient and in compliance with applicable state and federal policies and GAAP principles. This position is part time with the possibility of expanding hours. Remote or hybrid work is preferred, especially in the active circus season.  Pay range: $30-$40/hour

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor accounts payable and maintain all bookkeeping and filing records 
  • Enter and reconcile data and prepare reports as needed (sales, registration, cc, etc)
  • Make bank deposits
  • Maintain product inventory records
  • Compute and process state sales taxes as necessary
  • Assist the Accountant with preparing and gathering items for the annual audit as needed
  • Process and manage all aspects of payroll and employee benefits                                                   
  • Develop and manage office policies, procedures, and process improvements in  collaboration with relevant staff

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Minimum of three years of progressively more responsible work experience in a general office environment
  2. One to three years of bookkeeping experience, including familiarity with payroll processing
  3. Strong organizational skills and ability to handle competing priorities
  4. Very good oral and written communication skills; accurate and strong attention to detail  
  5. Proficiency in QuickBooks, MS Office Suite, Google Drive, Dropbox, and other computer skills
