Arts Connect 2016

Are you interested in using your art form to support children’s learning in all subjects? Arts integration that engages children of all abilities and backgrounds requires creative work with classroom teachers.

VSA Vermont—in partnership with the Integrated Arts Academy (IAA), the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, Burlington City Arts and the Vermont Arts Council—is offering a three-credit graduate course for teaching artists to learn more about arts integration, Universal Design for Learning, and classroom collaboration. Teaching artists from across Vermont are encouraged to apply for participation in the third annual Arts Connect professional development program.

Professional Development for Teaching Artists

The program will take place during the fall semester of the 2016-17 school year and will consist of direct instruction in arts integration and Universal Design for Learning, online and in-person reflection, classroom observation, and collaborative planning sessions. There will also be an opportunity in January to present to the IAA faculty for consideration.

Program participants who complete the course will receive three graduate level credits through Saint Michael’s College and a stipend covering tuition costs.

To be considered for participation, applicants must be available to complete six hours of classroom observation between September 14 and December 7, provide monthly online reflection, and meet in person for the following dates (all are Wednesdays):

September 14, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. full-day intensive
September 21, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. full-day intensive
October 19, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. interim meeting
November 16, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., interim meeting
December 7, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. final course meeting
