Stephen Pite

Stephen PiteStephen Pite is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Columbia University, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. He has established academic programs in design communications, digital media, and visual storytelling as professor, chair, dean, and director at the School of Visual Arts, the Southern California Institute of Architecture, and the Art Institute of New York City. He joined the Vermont College of Fine Arts as director of the MFA in film program in 2013.

In 2002 Stephen authored “The Digital Designer,” a college text that was adopted at 80 universities across the country. Stephen currently teaches digital media and video production courses on-site and online for the Concordia College and the Vermont State College system. He has served on the board of directors of the Green Mountain Film Festival, The White River Indie Film Festival, and the Lost Nation Theater.

Stephen, with his wife, Karen, and his daughter, Annabel, live on a small farming property along the Dog River in Berlin that supports poultry, goats, and vegetable production. He is proud to make Vermont his home, and is looking forward to helping the Vermont Arts Council sustain a network of creative opportunity for all Vermonters.
