Description:

SHOW 23 is the latest group exhibition of the collective gallery’s membership of Vermont-based contemporary artists. In addition, the Front will present work by guest artist Jeanne Thurston, who makes dynamic 3-dimensional paintings that are engaging explorations of color and movement. There will be an opening reception on Friday, February 2, 2018, during Montpelier’s Art Walk, 4-8PM. Free and open to the public. Limited edition prints by several of the gallery’s artists are also available for sale. The Front is located 6 Barre Street in downtown Montpelier, diagonally across and around the corner from the Savoy Theatre.

Description:

The Sixth Floor Trio regards all of the world’s musical traditions as part of the same continuum, and they explore it all — from bluegrass to klezmer, classical to jazz, ancient music to contemporary rock. This wildly inventive, supremely talented chamber group includes founding members Teddy Abrams (clarinet, piano), Harrison Hollingsworth (bassoon, violin), and Johnny Tessier (clarinet). Their stellar musical chops and infectious enthusiasm have made them sure-fire hits with diverse audiences the world over.

Description:

The Henry Sheldon Museum presents an exhibit of 20 esteemed contemporary Vermont children’s book authors/artists. Their paintings, illustrations, and photographs, as well as books that feature their artworks will be scattered throughout the museum to be enjoyed by visiting children and adults. Author readings, presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on activities are being planned throughout the run of the exhibit.

Included in the exhibit are works by Jim Arnosky, Mary Azarian, Harry Bliss, Janet Hayward Burnham, Jason Chin, Eileen Christelow, John and Jennifer Churchman, Sarah Dillard, Deirdre Gill, Thacher Hurd, Woody Jackson, Warren Kimble, Peter Lourie, Tracey Campbell Pearson, Jan Reynolds, Phoebe Stone, Ashley Wolff, Tami Crupi Zeman, Bruce Zeman, Jr.

The many authors and artists vary in age, background, experience, and style, but all have chosen to live in Vermont, finding inspiration from the state’s landscape, agriculture, village life, and friendly neighbors. They also draw inspiration from their own childhood memories, as well as more recent experiences with their children and grandchildren. A child’s imagination is limitless and these artists/authors perfectly capture the whimsy of possibility. Their colorful and creative works will captivate visitors of all ages.

Northern Daughters is excited to announce "more light" a group exhibit on view at the gallery’s 221 Main Street location in Vergennes. The show features small works by Anne Cady, Edward Holland, Julia Jensen, Molly Bosley, Pamela Smith & Sobelman Cortapega. Work is in a range of media, including watercolor, encaustic, oil painting and collage.

Description:

The T. W. Wood Gallery at 46 Barre St in Montpelier, Vermont is pleased to announce two new exhibits of
Vermont artists work. Susan Abbott and Axel Stohlberg will be showing their paintings in the contemporary
exhibit room and the f 7 photography group “Seven Ways of Seeing” in the contemporary hallway. The
exhibits run from January 2 through February 23, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, January 4, from
5:00-7:00 pm. The reception is free and will offer an opportunity to meet the artists, purchase art and enjoy
refreshments. There will be a Gallery Art Talk with the Axel Stohlberg on Friday, February 2 at 5:30 pm
followed by Q & A with members of the f 7 group at 6:30 pm.

One of the state’s most renowned artists, Claire Van Vliet uses mineral pigments in a two-dimensional handmade papermaking process to color and form the images into textured paper. Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival Winter Screening Series Vermont Arts 2018
Description:

The 2018 MNFF Winter Screening Series at Town Hall Theater offers films from January through May 2018 with a specially curated feature each month. In keeping with the essence of the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival, all the films come from first and second time directors.

The January selection will be the luminous documentary “California Typewriter,” directed by Doug Nichol, screening Sunday, January 7, at 2pm. Following thereafter – “I Am Evidence," a documentary directed by Trish Adlesic, on February 18 at 2pm, “Novitiate,” a narrative drama directed by Margaret Betts, on March 11 at 2pm, “Lady Bird,” a narrative drama directed by Greta Gerwig, on April 7 at 7pm and “The Judge,” a documentary directed by Erika Cohn, on May 11 at 7pm.
