Edwin Owre: New Constructions

Edwin Owre: New Constructions
Description:

With an artistic career spanning more than five decades, artist and educator Edwin Owre works continuously in his Grand Isle studio creating new, colorful "constructions" that explore the possibilities of drawing and the gesture through abstract sculpture. Referencing the sensibilities of the formative American art movements of the 1960s and 70s, while embracing contemporary expressions of mark-making, Owre creates work that is exciting, immediate, and most importantly formative to a generation of Vermont-based contemporary artists working today.

Free Admission. The Winter Exhibition also includes Dusty Boynton and Elise Whittemore.

Time: 1/19/18 6:00pm - 4/7/18 8:00pm

Dusty Boynton: From Within

Dusty Boynton: From Within
Description:

Dusty Boynton merges past memory and personal experience to create works that are seemingly child-like in appearance but sophisticated in gesture and expression. Drawing from her inner subconscious world, the artist’s cast of characters rejects conventional representation and inhabit a fantastic world of their own. Boynton’s expressive brushstrokes, vibrant color palette, and supernatural imagery give her compositions a carefree and imaginative innocence. Dusty Boynton’s exhibition for BCA Center will feature large-scale paintings, monoprints, and reliefs created over the past decade.

Dusty is one of three artists featured in the winter exhibition. Edwin Owre and Elise Whittemore are also included.

Elise Whittemore: One by One

Elise Whittemore: One by One
Description:

Elise Whittemore, BCA’s 2017 Barbara Smail award-winner, has made important contributions to the vibrancy and excellence of Vermont’s arts community as an artist and arts advocate. In her beautifully designed prints, Whittemore is drawn to the physical labor of art making and how it challenges her to pursue different ways hand and material can create meaning together. The artist’s use of pattern develops a narrative that explores the physicality of printmaking as well as formal constructs that are inherent to the natural world.

Free Admission. The Winter Exhibition also includes Dusty Boynton and Edwin Owre.

Drawing Threads: Conversation Between Line and Stitch

Drawing Threads: Conversation Between Line and Stitch
Description:

Meet Elizabeth Fram, fabric artist, at her artist reception on Sunday ,March 25 from 2-4 pm . The show will hang through May 6.
Statement from Elizabeth:
Three years ago, in order to revive my drawing skills, I began sketching common household items and table-scapes daily. Concurrently, my textile work became increasingly more reliant on organizing space and manipulating the elements within it through pattern via Shibori-dyeing, color, and intensive fields of surface stitches.

It was a natural progression to look for ways to create overlap between these two separate areas of practice, such that they could challenge and complement each other. I am interested in investigating image and surface, separately and together, celebrating each for the qualities they contribute to elevate the other. The resulting pieces pay homage to the "every day", observing that quiet moments in life merit as much notice as those that are outwardly more momentous.

Time: 3/22/18 10:00am - 5/6/18 3:00pm
Location: Emile A Gruppe Gallery, Jericho
