Description:

Vermont Headstones is a cycle of 12 songs by Stanley Charkey, performed by baritone Don Wilkinson, oboist Mary Cicconetti and violist Anya Shemetyeva. Using poetic inscriptions from historic Vermont cemeteries the lyrics poignantly bring to life quiet moments from Vermont’s history. The work celebrates the contributions of early Vermont farmers, settlers, soldiers, sailors and others to the rich tapestry that is Vermont.

An evening with Tom Rush Vermont Arts 2018
Description:

Folk legend Tom Rush, a New Hampshire native, has been thrilling audiences worldwide for more than 50 years with signature hits such as his own “No Regrets,” “Merrimac County,” and “Driving Wheel,” as well as iconic covers of Eric von Schmidt’s “Joshua Gone Barbados,” and Joni Mitchell’s “Circle Game” and “Urge for Going.” Rush helped shape the folk revival of the 1960s and his music has left its stamp on generations of artists. “As vital and engaging as ever, Tom Rush is still doing what audiences love him for: writing and playing, passionately and tenderly . . . knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our time.” (The New York Times).

The 2018 MNFF Winter Screening Series at Town Hall Theater offers films from January through May 2018 with a specially curated feature each month. In keeping with the essence of the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival, all the films come from first and second time directors.

The January selection will be the luminous documentary “California Typewriter,” directed by Doug Nichol, screening Sunday, January 7, at 2pm. Following thereafter – “I Am Evidence," a documentary directed by Trish Adlesic, on February 18 at 2pm, “Novitiate,” a narrative drama directed by Margaret Betts, on March 11 at 2pm, “Lady Bird,” a narrative drama directed by Greta Gerwig, on April 7 at 7pm and “The Judge,” a documentary directed by Erika Cohn, on May 11 at 7pm.
