Celtic Winter Gathering

Celtic Winter Gathering
Description:

Watch Scottish Highland and Irish step dancers from across surrounding states and provinces compete from 9:00 am-3:00pm.

At 7:00 pm an evening concert with Boston-based Fiddler & Folksinger Emerald Rae creates a groove-heavy sound reminiscent of old country blended with the intricacy of Celtic fiddle and rocked-up droning accompaniment. Complimented by sultry vocals and introspective lyrics that mirror old folktales, Emerald Rae brings the fiddling-singing combo to a whole new plateau. Her intriguingly quirky songwriting is steeped in the echos of traditional music, sewn together with imaginative arranging that will pique your curiosity. Her latest release “If Only I Could Fly” (2013) showcases her prowess as a multi-instrumentalist.

Emerald is joined by Dominique Dodge, a harper and singer who lives in Vermont. She is deeply grounded in the music and song traditions of Cape Breton, Ireland, and Scotland. Dominique has a passion for melody-driven dance music and responsive, rhythmic accompaniment, as well as for songs, airs, and 18th century harp music. She is a former Fulbright Scholar and graduate of the MA in Irish Music Performance at the University of Limerick. She also holds a BA Honours in Scottish Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. Dominique has extensive experience in traditional arts education and maintains a busy and vibrant teaching practice. She is a dedicated learner of Scottish Gaelic and has been performing, recording and teaching traditional music and song on both sides of the Atlantic for over ten years.

Dancers will also be featured in the evening show.

Neko Case

Neko Case Vermont Arts 2018
Description:

Neko Case is a major poet by any standard, a songwriter less interested perhaps in traditional narrative form than in distilling a pure moment of time. Shes an artist whose songs are so textured in their presentation that the subtleties filter into the subconscious while the overall effect astonishes. But rather than each of her progressive albums disposing of what came before it, there is, instead, a sense of continuation at play--in which every album exists like the subsequent chapter to a novel that grows more complicated and intriguing as it progresses.
