Governor James H. Douglas and the Vermont Arts Council are pleased to announce that Rob Mermin, circus arts performer and founder of Circus Smirkus, will receive the 2008 Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place on Friday, October 17th at the State House in Montpelier.

While we all know that "art feeds the soul", people need to feed their bodies first. In response to the dire economic forecast Vermonters are facing this winter, the Arts Council is organizing "doing our pART," an online auction of art, crafts, performances and arts-related services to benefit the Vermont Foodbank.
We are asking Vermont artists, artisans and arts organizations to contribute items to this effort. The online auction will take place on our website from Nov. 28- Dec. 4.
